Metrolink's Coastal Line Takes Another Hit From Marie's Leftovers

Hurricane Marie never made landfall, but her swell still managed to take out a chunk of Southern California's rail network. Large swells, combined with high tides and rain, shut the Pacific Surfliner corridor between Laguna Niguel and Oceanside, with Metrolink crews racing to stabilize the tracks using riprap boulders, a fix that ironically speeds up the very erosion it's meant to fight. This isn't new territory for San Clemente, where a proposed 1% sales tax has qualified for the ballot, with a portion of the revenue earmarked for sand placement and erosion control.
